The first step in most of our projects is to get problems, challenges and then ideas down on paper.
Big scale is quite difficult to manage in a way we want to. Everything’s easier to control and draw in the smaller projects. That’s why we love small. Above a certain scale you can’t control a project so rigorously. Since catalogue architecture holds no appeal for us we prefer to reinvent the use of materials and solutions, and this is more likely in smaller projects.
We never do such nice sketches, but we sketch all the time. We have to explain our ideas to a much bigger team and that can’t be done without sketching. Another central part of the discussion is a working model. So the models have the equal value as the paper during the working process. Whenever we lecture in universities we always try to encourage the students to think in terms of series of working models and never on the paper only.
