In the first phase of design sketching is a contemplative phase when thoughts continually change in flashes. The sketch is the graphic record of a moment which expresses the architect’s intention to form masses. The hand draws and the ideas stop for a moment in the head. If the right balance can be reached between the hand and ideas, a tasteful architectural drawing will result.
Drawing has a mainly calming effect. I don’t think about the details and compose my ideas in broad lines.
