Sometimes when I am on the phone or just thinking, I would doodle shapes that look like ‘stuffed olives’ or sometimes just ‘tubes’ or ‘ribbons’. I could draw these forever. It feels fun and relaxing. I sometimes add color by filling in the spaces in between.
Such silly drawing helps me with the aesthetics of my design. To find the right shape and geometry, I draw overlapping lines. I would redraw a sketch design again and again, sometimes up to eight or nine times. Once I’ve finished a sketch design, it is modeled in 3D parametrically or simply as extrusions from a template. Although I often draw manually, these drawings are quickly digitized and converted into 3D form.
